Description: At present, in language testing and general educational measurement, there are two dominant coexisting paradigms: Criterion-Referenced Measurement (CRM) and Norm-Referenced Measurement (NRM). Tests where the result is interpreted as ability on a particular task or domain of tasks are CRM. Tests where the results is interpreted as a rank in a group of peers are NRM. CRM is more focused on test content, whereas NRM is usually more concerned with statistical characteristics of items and tasks. Print materials available.
