Description: Dora is a retired school teacher spends her days writing letters for illiterates who pass through Rio de Janeiro's central station. When a woman comes to her to seek out the father of her son, Dora secretly hides the letter rather than send it to a man she believes to be an abusive drunk. The next day, the woman is run over by a bus, leaving her young son, Josue, to fend for himself. As Dora takes on responsibility for helping Josue find his father, she slowly opens up her heart to him, and he learns to love her more than the strangers she must eventually leave him with.
