Our Children / It Will Never Happen Again = Unzere Kinder

Barcode: 58961458 Call Number: D-Holocaust Material Type: Video -Digital Time: 80 min. Date: 1951 Language: English Creator: Directed by Natan Gross Description: Suppressed by the Polish Communist government as too "pro-Zionist" and lost for over thirty years, Our Children was the last produced Polish Yiddish feature film. Filmed in 1948 at the JDC-supported Helenowek Colony, an orphanage near Lodz housing Jewish children who had survived the Holocaust, the film's centerpiece is a performance by comedy duo Dzigan and Shumacher of Sholem Aleichem's Kasrilevke is Burning. Upset by the inaccuracy of the performers' musical portrayal of ghetto life, the children turn the tables on the actors, telling of their wartime suffering and teaching the adults about the healing possibilities of music and storytelling. Made just a few years after WWII, Our Children dares to ask: is it more therapeutic to remember or to forget? Subjects: Holocaust Collection: Martin Salinger Resource Collection
