Description: Astrid Roemer was born in Paramaribo, Surinam in 1947. She emigrated to the Netherlands in 1966 and made her debut as a poet with Sasa in 1970. It was the start of a long series of short stories, novels, poetry, radio plays and plays. Roemer has worked as a teacher and editor. Since 1988 she has been working as a family therapist. She has a seat on the city council in the Hague, for the political party green left.
